I got Good news and Bad News

I am smashingly handsome but darkly so. Mysterious. A raw animal magnetism. I don’t mind admitting it. I have a delicious tenor with the ability to dirty its way into a more Don Henley/Tom Petty realm when needed. I’m a decent thinker. I make money thinking and you can’t ask much more than that. But I shine as a fighter. Trust me, if you were cornered in an alley you’d want me there. I could keep them busy long enough for you to escape. I love my job, I love my wife, I love my friends. Whatever in the world could go wrong?
Well SciFi could pass on Last Vamp for starters.
Which they did.
The book option was up at the beginning of the month. They looked at their list of mini-series projects which included a Spielberg project as well as a Scorsese project and I guess Mr. Farmer didn’t fit. They praised my work and the results. They thought the script was great (which is always hard to believe when they pass) but said they only had so many slots open for the mini and that sadly, Steven and Martin were filling those positions.
I spoke with Michael, one of the producers, and he didn’t back down at all. He said he’s always liked my writing but thinks this script sings. He had spoken to Turner at the beginning of the week and mentioned Last Vamp as one of his projects. Their response was, “We should have done that.” He called them back this morning and said, “Now, you can.” He sent the script over today.
And Frank, one of the other producers, called over to SciFi because from day one the intention was always to spin the mini into a weekly series. He asked about turning the four hour into a two hour backdoor pilot. This concept interested them. So, evidently new talks are underway.
It’s bad news. But all bad news can be turned into better news if there’s a good team in place. And this is a good team.
You’d think that would be enough bad news for the day but what’s wrong with a little additional slap in the face. Patrick called and mentioned Scarecrow was now up at the IMDB. Of course, Stuart is listed as soul writer. Fabulous. I guess today is Bend Todd Over day.

It’s time’s like these I must always remind myself that it could be worse. My job could be worse.
It’s just another day.
