It really is sort of Supernatural

One time I was sitting at a red light thinking. I do that sometimes. Think. The light turned green. But I didn’t go because, as I mentioned, I was thinking. Finally I realized my error and started to pull forward as WHAM! This massive SUV ran the redlight ahead! Was it luck? Good judgement? Karma that kept me alive that day? Dunno, but whatever it was, it’s still watching over me. Because I shudder to imagine what would have happened had I said an ill word toward young master Jensen Ackles in my previous post. Well, I don’t have to imagine. I know what would have happened. It would have started slowly. I would have noticed people who looked out of place. On the street corner. Across from the Red House Cafe. More and more as the day went on. Like the first chapter of Sorcerer’s Stone. Except where the Dursley’s were seeing wizard robes and pointy hats. I would have been seeing Supernatural T-shirts and glaring faces. This would no doubt have resulted in my being dragged out into the streets by a posse of Jensenites. Using mythology from the show I would have been proclaimed some form of demon. I’m nearly certain someone would have shot me with a salt filled shotgun.
Disaster avoided.
Thank you for the comments and emails. All very kind. Well, except for that one email. Apparently I am forever damned to the seventh level of hell for only just now recognizing the brilliance that is Jensen.
I actually suck at playing Hollywood. I’m known to speak my mind much to my own detriment. If I didn’t like something I’d tell you. But Jensen, Jaime, Kerr, Edi, Betsy…the entire cast…they really are just that good. Their performances make me look like a better writer. Sure, it’s just a horror movie but man is it going to be a well done horror movie. I’m just proud to be a small part of it.
This is just a small thing but I found it endearing. I guess it was day one. I had not yet been introduced to Mr. Ackles. And there was no guarantee that I would be. Writers tend to drool, belch and break wind so the powers that be like to keep up away from the talent. Truth is, writers, we do our part early on. We may tweak a line or two during production or make a quick change due to budget restraints but our job is to stay out of the way once the cameras start rolling. We become both unseen and forgotten. So, I was well hidden in the shadows across the set from where Jensen was shooting a very intense scene. Cut. Then as the crew moved camera and lights for the next set up, Jensen crossed the entire set. I remember looking up and thinking, hmm, wonder where he’s going. Turns out he was coming to introduce himself to me.
Looks, talent and just a wonderfully nice guy. Keep him safe, Fandom, he’s one of the good ones.

I love your sense of humor. We’re a friendly bunch overall and definitely know Ackles’ is one in a million, that’s why I think some of us occassionally go prematurely into “mama bear” mode and become over-protective, thus your damnation to the 7th level of Hell. Say hi to Dean while you’re there. ;)
But I think most fans are going to love the fact that you speak your mind and don’t “play the game”. Most of the fans of Supernatural I know respect that alot. I don’t know if I should admit this, I’ve read a few pages of your script that were posted on audition sites. I went from “Why, oh, why did he choose to do one of THOSE movies”(which is rich, I admit, coming from someone who has watched Supernatural, a show based on horror movies and lore, religiously for the last 3 seasons:) to “This sounds really good! No wonder he wanted to do it”.
What I saw suggested this film has a good story, to go along with the gore, and some complex relationships and characters, which isn’t always true of “slasher flicks”. While I don’t know what is on the most likely hundred+ pages that I didn’t see, if those few are any indication, you did a great job with the script.

Yeah I agree with reaper. We tend to be a little bit too protective of Jensen’s – but it is just natural (not only super) for whomever has followed his career to get frustrated by the way he seems to be always dismissed as an actor just because of his looks – which you graciously admitted to on your previous post. In any case we wish you both: the writer, first and foremost, and then him, all the best for this movie. I’ll be looking forward to it… and I’ll go watch, but… I don’t live in the USA and I’m worried this 3D stuff is going to put a damper on distribution…What do you think?
(I’m standing in a dark corner right now…summoning something…) :-)

I just wanted to say I was grateful to see you give Jensen his acting props. Also from other stories I’ve read from just fans that have run into him not surprised at all he came over to introduce himself :-)

haha. as the others have already said, we’re mostly harmless. of course, the key phrase there is mostly.
we can’t help but want to protect The Ackles. we do strongly believe in his work, and i hope that you’re seeing the character you wrote come to life through him. and hey, i’ll admit it, this fandom scares the (excuse my language) shit out of me. Supernatural, horror, it doesn’t scare me one quarter what the fans scare me. but please, never feel the need to kiss ass because certain fans would get upset. i love that you’re not hollywooding. it’s so refreshing to see that these days and with luck, the trend will continue to others.
i hope your work is presented on screen the way you wanted it to be :D have a great day!

It has been nice to read your comments about MBV. I am a horror and Ackles fan and I have been trying to keep up to date on the movie status. I hope the movie does well…I know I will be there…probably more than once. :)
Best wishes on your future projects.

Thanks for posting info on Jensen. Keep posting please! I am from Australia and I hope we get the movie here. How long is the shooting going to take?

You have good sense of humour, and I hope, it will be shown in your film. As in any film, even horrors, there should be a share of humour.
We fear for stage career of Jensen. And I hope, that your film will open for him new horizons.
Excuse for my English.

Reaper:
I get the frustration wanting to see your guy do “more” than a horror flick. When I got started horror was till frowned upon and considered “beneath” most studios. Then Scream came out and suddenly horror became “respectable.” Well, not really but it sure was making alot of money. :) Anyway, thanks for the kind words.
cryptonomicon:
I’m curious about the overseas market myself. I saw a Variety article mentioning it had presold in a couple places. Guess we’ll all see what happens at the same time.
rachelelisabeth:
Yeah, he’s a good guy.
thursdaywench:
I’ve been with the same beautiful woman since 1994. I know how to kiss ass. But The Ackles brought his A Game to Pittsburgh. The whole cast did.
Trisha:
Thank you. Hope you enjoy the ride.
Tiny:
They’ll shoot through the end of the month. I’ve spoken with Patrick several times since I left and all is still going great.
Aldona:
Thanks and I wish the best to Jensen and the others. From what I’ve seen of their performances they deserve both praise and recognition.

You’re one funny guy! I’m so glad I’ve discovered your blog it makes me laugh my ass off. Unusual because the Brit sense of humour is a strange one!
Anyway, yes we’re very protective of The Ackles, he’s a very special shiny star :) However, we don’t bite and like everyone else said here we’re mostly friendly! I find fandom and Hollywood all a bit crazy to be honest so thanks so much for keeping it real.
Everything crossed for a UK release *puts on 3D glasses and drums fingers impatiently*
The very best of luck to you in this venture and love and luck of course to The Ackles :)

Thanks for your blogs about MBV; haven’t found much else about the movie. I find I enjoy reading them just as much as I enjoy hearing about Jensen Ackles. He’s one of my favorite actors & I’m not surprised to hear he’s doing a great job. He’s done so in everything I’ve seen him in. I wondered about another horror movie, like others, but if your blogging gives us a taste of your script writing (in tone/voice, whatever) it should come out great. And, of course, you should always kiss ass when it comes to your wife. Now, could you share that bit of wisdom with my darling husband?

I am giggling over your comment about the supposedly “human” qualities of writers. They remind me of the Season Two gag reel, and the antics between Jensen & his costar, Jared Padalecki.
I think if you were able to spend more time with him, you’d find Jensen is just one of the guys, with a quirky sense of humor who would rather have a beer and a few laughs with you than court stardom. That is only one of his more endearing qualities.
In light of all that has been said, how can we do anything other than want the best for him? I really look forward to seeing My Bloody Valentine 3D. Thank you for this second post on our favorite guy.

Consider yourself safe from the “Jensenites”….for now! Seriously, we all know Jensen is one of the good guys. A lot of us have met him at conventions and the guests have nothing but good things to say about him. I’m so looking forward to this movie to see Jensen play someone other then Dean, not that I don’t LOVE Dean but it’s nice to see him do other things.
Good luck with the movie!!!
Heather
