Just got notes on this latest draft. It’s been a fun process. He isn’t forcing the notes. We chat, we banter and we try to decide what we really like and what could be better. Reminds me of the way Dean Lorey and I work together. It makes writing fun again.
Tonight Mel and I meet the Loreys for the newest LOTRs.
Sent another pass of Totem to Patrick just now. I like it. I still regret the thriller aspects we have lost but it’s going to be just as good only a different genre feel to it.
We’re hittting the Grove again with the Loreys tonight.
Dean’s gone. This will be our first Christmas without him. I thought about inviting Maila over but that didn’t seem right. Guess Mel and I will keep Christmas morning to ourselves for awhile.
Sent the new script with Patrick’s notes his way this morning. Amazingly he read it instantly and called me back with notes. Dean Lorey is the only other guy to do that. I already have notes for a new pass. Good notes too so I don’t mind making the changes. I figure we’ll get it as close to what he wants before handing it in to Revolution. He seems like the sort of guy who will fight for the script. Hope so. That would be a new experience for me.
He’s not a fan of the Blue Star crew. Not really sure why. He’s never gone into detail but I assume it’s because of his work on Darkness Falls. He was hired to come in and reshoot what they had created so I assume there will always be hard feelings in a situation like that.
Patrick looks young, younger than myself but I think he said he was close to forty. Wow, he certainly doesn’t look it. He has been an editor until recently. He’s edited most of Wes Craven’s movies and to hear him speak of Wes, it sounds like Wes and Sean are very similar beasts.
So, although I have notes, Mel and I already had plans to go to Disney with the Loreys this weekend so I’ll get back on Totem Monday.
Well, it seems the powers that be hate the idea of calling a movie about a killer scarecrow, Scarecrow. So it’s been renamed Totem. I’ve no clue why that name over others. I guess we’ll have to shove some sort of Totem BS into the script so that it will make sense.
I’ve started the rewrite. For the most part everything stays the same. Patrick is very visual which I like so I’m adding a bunch of creepy action beats. And he’s redesigned the wife making her a much stronger character. That note I like alot. Nothing wrong with strong female leads. I’ve decided not to play the politics game with Patrick. I’ll have a draft tomorrow or the next day and I’m just gonna send it his way.
