Mel was supposed to start working as a bartender at the Grove today. She cancelled. She’s…I’ve never seen her so torn up. She hasn’t stopped crying for longer than 30 minutes at a time.
I’ve a lunch meeting today to meet a different agent at ICM. Robert Lazar. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to be upbeat.
I’m also supposed to meet with Revolution to get my Scarecrow notes.
I spoke with Sean briefly. He sounded as broken as I’ve ever heard him. He and I may have had our differences but there’s no doubt he cared deeply for Dean. Enough for now.

Dean Riesner — 1918 – 2002

Rope my feet and call me Sadie
I got the Job. Nicole just called and shouted, “You got it!” I’m a working screenwriter again! I’m going back in next week to hear their notes but Frankel, my lawyer, is already starting the process. I called Dean Lorey and told him. He was overjoyed for me. I called Dean Riesner. He was overjoyed as well. Course, he jabbed at me for never calling. I told him to blow me that I wasn’t after his money. He cackled and I told him all about the job. Course, that was pretty much the extent of people I wanted to tell. Shame my only two friends are a short dude and an old dude, but what are ya gonna do?
Scarecrow part II
Who knows. I gave them a tight eight minute pitch but I can never read these meetings. Derek said the standard, “Let us discuss it and we’ll get back to you.” It’s a numbers game. The more I pitch the better my odds of putting the right story in front of the right people.
Pretty interesting idea they have. I really sparked to it. On the way home I came up with a take and called Derek back and told him I wanted to come back in. I’m going in tomorrow to pitch he, the producers and another New York producer will be on the phone. I’m gonna pitch them the horror version of “A Beautiful Mind”.
