Looks like Jason’s getting an April 2002 release. Good news. There were rumors that it might go straight to video. I didn’t want to believe those rumors but you get insecure after it’s been sitting on a shelf for a year. I despise that it’s not the movie I wanted it to be but what can you do? If it has a strong opening then I’ll certainly change my mood. Hopfully I’ll get some work out of it.
Riesner called to see if he was invited to Christmas.
He’s been coming over for Christmas morning for several years now. I go pick him up bright and early Chrismas morning and bring him to the apartment. Mel cooks a big country breakfast and then we sit around the tree and open gifts. Dean likes his gifts but it’s the stuffed stockings that get him stoked. The first time we did it he cried like an infant for an hour. He hadn’t had that sort of Christmas since he was a kid.
Anyway I told him, of course, he’s invited. But the truth is, we haven’t seen him since our little falling out. I’ve spoken with him a couple of times on the phone but Mel won’t go over there anymore. He’s called for her a few times but she won’t take the calls. I feel sorry for the old guy but he should have known better. Melanie looked up to Dean like a father.
Sean, Noel, Jess, Susan…one of them said it. I’ll find out which one.
Now I Guess I’ll go tell Mel that I just invited Dean over for Christmas.
Well, I have my first Ghost Writing assignment. I guess everybody does it out here but nobody really talks about it. Basically it is when a successful writer hires an unsuccessful and/or struggling writer to write an outline or first draft or whatever. The successful writer will most likely always go through and make their own pass but it’s a win-win situation for both writers. The studios may argue that point. But I was out of cash and now I’ve got a little in the bank.
Got in another fight. Haven’t told Mel. Some guy started yelling at his wife or girlfried or whatever she was outside Subway. He called her a “cunt” and shoved her and that’s when I’d had it. I asked him politely to call me a “cunt”. He told me to back off and I didn’t and oh well. We started out the same height but in the end he was looking up at me from the ground. Guess I’m stressed about the money and taking it out on the many wife-beaters present in the greater LA county.
Sean called today. Haven’t spoken with him in forever. We chatted about nothing for a while then he asked if I’d talked to Riesner. Told him I hadn’t. He said I should call him, that he missed us. I fished a bit but if Sean knew anything about our falling out he didn’t let on.
But then, no one manipulates like Sean. If he did say it then calling and trying to get us back together would be just his style of cover-up. Sheesh…I gotta chill. As bad as Sean can be in business I just can’t believe he would sabotage our relationship with Dean. I guess I should call the old bastard. Tomorrow.
