I did the Mask II pitch yesterday to Toby, Kent Alterman and Janis Chaskin. It was pretty clear that Toby wasn’t a fan. He was grumpy the moment he entered the room. It was by far the worst experience I’ve had at a pitch. I’ve had friends tell me nightmares about pitches and I guess it was time for me to have my first. Toby wasn’t very nice and that caught me off guard. He’s a writer…would have expected more respect from him. An understanding. But he didn’t even know the secret handshake. I believe he might be a fruad. I miss DeLuca.
Haven’t heard from Nicole but Im pretty certain I didn’t get the job.
I’d spoken with Nicole Tuesday night about “Riddle”. Am going to make another pass through the ending. Will get into it today.

Work, sew, rub my feet
Michelle Weis’ office called this morning to set up a meeting to pitch Toby tomorrow at 5:30.
Tonight, Mel and I are going out to buy her a sewing machine.
Alison Meyer called me back this morning. She’s one of the four girls I lived with when I first moved out here. She’s dropping by Monday morning to rub my and Mel’s backs.
Riesner moody
Mel and I met Riesner for lunch. He’s unhappy. That’s odd for him. Normally he’s the most upbeat guy in the world. Oh, he bitches about everything under the sun but that’s just him. He’s a happy bitcher. But today he seemed really down. couldn’t get to the bottom of it.
Vodka and pole dancers
Mel and I went out with Dean and Elizabeth tonight. We started out at PF Changs and ended up at Cheetahs, a strip joint on Hollywood. We actually had a blast.
An executive calls…
Michelle Weis from New Line just called to tell me how much they enjoyed my Mask II pitch and that Toby should be back Friday and they hope to get me in to tell him a story the following week. I guess I made the cut.
By the way…that is a first. I’ve never had an exec call to tell me I did a good job on anything. Course, they never call to say you suck either so I guess it’s a good trade off.
I’ve also been playing around with the idea of starting an internet site for writers. I’ve spoken with Dean about it and he likes the idea. It will be a place for Essays on the art of screenplays as well as Behind-the-scenes from the writer’s pov.
