Pitching New Line

Nicole called last night to tell me about New Line taking pitches for the Mask II. She told me there’s no Jim Carey this time and that they want a story that will allow an ensemble cast — with the mask jumping from person to person. She asked me to call Michelle Weis, the executive at New Line in charge of the project. Melanie and I then ran out and bought the Mask on DVD to refresh myself to the world.
Michelle and I chatted this morning and she mentioned wanting animals to wear the mask this time as Carey’s dog did in the first one. We have a tentative meeting set for 10 am Friday morning.

The Writer’s Tone

Dean and Mark both had some interesting notes. Some I used some I didn’t. It has become very appearant that Dean and I, although very similar in many ways, are very different with writing. Dean is clean and simple. I’m complex. The good thing is that I go so far over the top that his pulling me back some makes for a good balance. Dean and I should write something together. Anyway, “Riddle Me This” messenger’d over to my agent on Thursday. No word yet.

Humility

Spent the day doing handy-man work at Dean Riesner’s. Fixed a leak, installed a doorbell, adjusted some doors that wouldn’t shut. I didn’t do it for free. He knows we’re broke and was throwing me a bone. Good man. Humility…I’m a screenwriter…I’m a handyman.

The Spec

Finished Riddle Me This. It’s very rough. It’s a spec. Spec being a screenplay I’ve written for free in hopes of selling. Riddle is a thriller…pretty good one I think. I’m writing it in hopes of widening my appeal. Horror is fun but the pay is low. Thrillers will open another market to me. I emailed the script to Mark and Dean to get their thoughts. Hopefully I can send a polished version to Nicole this week.

I Hate Dean Lorey

Dean Lorey and I have been friends since Mid 1996. He’s more or less the reason I’m living in LA and the reason I’ve actually had some success out here. We had never been in a fight…until DeathMatch.
We have gone days without speaking over a Quake II match.
