Great treat about being in one of the entertainment guilds are the screenings. I rarely go…in fact…I never go with the exception of last year’s Two Towers. And this year it’s Return of the King. I got the invite about a month ago and I called to put Mel and I on the list. Dean didn’t get an invite so I called to put he and Elizabeth on the list as well.
And today was the day. Of course, when we got up to the dude checking invites Mel and I weren’t on the list. Dean and Elizabeth were but we were not. So we stood out in the lobby until a minute before the show and the place was packed with crappy front row seats.
Dean said it worked out even because he was sitting next to a farter.

But the movie made up for it. It was amazing. Best of the three. I had an exec ask me one time if I could have written any movie what would it be? Without a pause I said the LOTR trilogy. Then he stumbled around trying to figure out what sort of Fantasy project we could develop but he missed the point. How could you not want to be involved in that production? That will last. Those movies will be classics that our children’s children will watch. Ain’t nobody gonna be collecting old copies of Jason X.
Happy birthday to me…
Yeah, I’m older now.
Narcosis to Dimension
We pitched Nick and Andrew today…as it turned out Andrew was in town. We did a fantastic job. Patrick seems to know everyone in this silly town. But my guess is a pass. They loved the story but just couldn’t get past the underwater budet issues. Andrew said he’d run it by Harvey but this one felt like a pass.
A bar in 1994
Yesterday was the anniversary of my first date with Mel. We’re coming up on 10 years. It’s been rocky at times and great at others. This weekend we’re doing some sort of Dean and Todd birthday bash although I’m not sure what we’re gonna do. We may end up spending the night out there at their place.
Mark Gordon officially passed on Narcosis so Nicole and Valerie (Patrick’s Agent) are setting more meetings. Next Thursday we go to Nick Phillips’s office at Dimension where we will pitch he and Andrew Rona (who’ll be in NY on the phone). And more meetings will follow. This is a good story. Someone with the power to say yes is going to get this one. We’re just gonna have to go through the numbers like anything else.
The sad part is, if either Patrick or myself had a bigger name then we’d have already set it up. But you do what you’ve got to do.
Horrorville
Met Neal Edelstein and his partner again today. We three have gone back and forth trying to find something to develop together. Just never found anything I love. Horrorville is interesting. It’s based on some unpublished work they aquired from a comic book fella. I may play around with it and see what happens.
