Riesner read “Riddle Me This”. I don’t think he liked it…or perhaps he just didn’t get it. He gave me his white hat/black hat speech. I’ve heard the speech a dozen times before but it’s always good to hear it. Basically he likes his movies to have clearly defined good guys and bad guys. Which is funny when you take into consideration that he’s responsible for “Dirty Harry” and the Drifter in “High Plains Drifter”. However, in his defense, his good guys are clearly the “goodest” in his movies — even though they may be hardasses.

Sent another of pass of “Riddle” to Nicole. Her plan is to send it to a reader for feedback.

I did the Mask II pitch yesterday to Toby, Kent Alterman and Janis Chaskin. It was pretty clear that Toby wasn’t a fan. He was grumpy the moment he entered the room. It was by far the worst experience I’ve had at a pitch. I’ve had friends tell me nightmares about pitches and I guess it was time for me to have my first. Toby wasn’t very nice and that caught me off guard. He’s a writer…would have expected more respect from him. An understanding. But he didn’t even know the secret handshake. I believe he might be a fruad. I miss DeLuca.
Haven’t heard from Nicole but I’m pretty certain I didn’t get the job.
I’d spoken with Nicole Tuesday night about “Riddle”. Am going to make another pass through the ending. Will get into it today.

Michelle Weis’ office called this morning to set up a meeting to pitch Toby tomorrow at 5:30.
Tonight, Mel and I are going out to buy her a sewing machine.
Alison Meyer called me back this morning. She’s one of the four girls I lived with when I first moved out here. She’s dropping by Monday morning to rub my and Mel’s backs.

Mel and I met Riesner for lunch. He’s unhappy. That’s odd for him. Normally he’s the most upbeat guy in the world. Oh, he bitches about everything under the sun but that’s just him. He’s a happy bitcher. But today he seemed really down. couldn’t get to the bottom of it.
